Football Recap: Fishers Starts Season with Loss at Home

Fishers unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 49-24 to the Carmel Greyhounds on Friday. The Tigers have struggled against the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Fishers' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan Thembulembu, who rushed for 125 yards and one score, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. Gage Sturgill was another key player, having thrown for 250 yards and two touchdowns.

Anthony Coellner was a one-man wrecking crew For Carmel. as he rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 188 yards and one TD while completing 81.8% of his passes. Those 112 rushing yards gave Coellner a new career-high. Ayden Johnson was another major influence, as he rushed for 90 yards and ran in a TD.

Coming up, Fishers will take on Lawrence North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Carmel, they will face off against Westfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
