Football Recap: Brandon Mann's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bishop Manogue over Pittsburg + How To Watch

Bishop Manogue extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-3. They fell 31-23 to the Pittsburg Pirates. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Miners came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fifth in Nevada, while the Pirates are ranked 31st in California).

Bishop Manogue lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brandon Mann, who rushed for 36 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 132 yards on seven of 15 attempts. A healthy portion of Mann's aerial production (83 yards to be exact) went to Nate Simmons.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Bishop Manogue, racking up 11 points in total. All came from Ryder Scarlett: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 2-for-2 kicking extra points for an additional two.

As for Pittsburg, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 36.5 points this season.

Pittsburg can attribute much of their success to Carlos Torres, who threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Torres a new career-high in rushing yards (22). Xavier Fatu was another key player, picking up 109 receiving yards and one score.

Bishop Manogue wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 31-20 win against Reno on the 12th. As for Pittsburg, they have also already played their next contest, a 42-35 loss against Archbishop Riordan on the 13th.
