Softball Recap: Uwharrie Charter Academy Falls Short of Murphy in the Playoffs

Uwharrie Charter Academy and Murphy squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Uwharrie Charter Academy had to settle for second. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Katelyn West put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched nine innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. West was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one double.

In other batting news, Carly Rush made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Bristol Marine was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with one run.

Uwharrie Charter Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Murphy, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-7.

Uwharrie Charter Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Murphy, they will take on Union Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.2, the Cardinals 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
