Basketball Game Preview: Marana Tigers vs. Sunnyside Blue Devils

The Marana Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 61-29, which was the final score in Marana's tilt against Cibola on Friday.

Meanwhile, Sunnyside waltzed into their game on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They claimed a resounding 69-20 victory over the Cougars. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Marana better keep an eye on Dora Medina. She was instrumental in Sunnyside's win, almost dropping a triple-double on 13 points, ten assists, and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Medina a new career-high in points. Angelique Yanez was another key player, going 8 for 13 en route to 18 points and six boards.

Sunnyside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Sunnyside's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Marana, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Marana was taken down by Sunnyside 67-27 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Marana avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
