Football Recap: Southern Comes Up Short

Southern had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it six. They were dealt a 41-6 loss at the hands of the Eastern Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 53 points in the game before, the Tornadoes couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Eastern, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 38.2 points this season.

Eastern was led to victory by Jack Montgomery and Eric Manley Jr.. Montgomery rushed for 124 yards and a pair of TDs, while Manley Jr. threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Manley Jr. a new career-high in passer rating (177.1).

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern will venture away from home to take on Trimble at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tomcats' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Tornadoes' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Eastern, they will challenge East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Tartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.75 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
