Basketball Game Preview: The College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals vs. Phoenix Academy Firebirds + How To Watch

The College Prep & Leadership Academy is a perfect 3-0 against Phoenix Academy since December of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the Royals will head out on the road to face off against the Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with The College Prep & Leadership Academy sitting on seven straight victories and Phoenix Academy on three.

The College Prep & Leadership Academy will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Piedmont Classical, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Royals breezed past the Bobcats to the tune of 61-7 on Tuesday. The Royals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

The College Prep & Leadership Academy relied on the efforts of Mackenzie Dumbaya, who shot 64% from the field en route to 22 points along with seven steals and five assists, and Lexi Holmes, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 14 points and five steals. Dumbaya has also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: she's posted one of at least 50% every time she's hit the court this season. Jaleigh Casey was another key player, shooting 71% from the field to rack up 11 points.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Phoenix Academy over Surry HomeSchool in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Firebirds blew the Runnin' Patriots out of the water with a 64-31 final score. The Firebirds pushed the score to 50-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Runnin' Patriots had little chance of recovering from.

The College Prep & Leadership Academy's record is now 7-0. As for Phoenix Academy, their record now sits at 8-1.

The College Prep & Leadership Academy took their win against Phoenix Academy in their previous meeting back in November by a conclusive 54-34 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
