Basketball Recap: Cristo Rey Takes a Loss

Cristo Rey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 27th straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 63-24 loss at the hands of the Marietta Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Cougar can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 840th, while the Tigers are ranked 110th).

Several Cougar players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nate Getahun, who posted 13 points. That was a full 54.2% of Cristo Rey's points, marking the 13th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Henley Francois, who scored eight points.

Cristo Rey's loss dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Marietta, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cristo Rey will square off against Mohican Young Star Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Marietta, they will face off against Ellet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Ellet comes in on three and Marietta on four.
