Basketball Recap: Howells-Dodge Extends Winning Streak to Three

Howells-Dodge waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They managed a 52-48 win over the Fort Calhoun Pioneers. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Jaguars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Pioneers are ranked 21st).

Howells-Dodge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordyn Ratzlaff, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Jade Bayer, who earned 11 points.

Fort Calhoun's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raeann Massey, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals. Those nine steals gave Massey a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Bouwman, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Howells-Dodge pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Fort Calhoun, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Howells-Dodge will welcome Archangels Catholic at 4:10 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Calhoun, they will face off against West Point-Beemer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
