Basketball Game Preview: Merritt Oilers vs. Hobart Bearcats

The Merritt Oilers will head out to square off against the Hobart Bearcats at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Merritt is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Last Saturday, Merritt lost to Balko on the road by a 54-39 margin. While losing is never fun, the Oilers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Bison are ranked 110th).

Meanwhile, Hobart was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 54-49 to Frederick.

Hobart has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season. As for Merritt, they now have a losing record at 10-11.

Merritt was dealt a bruising 57-24 defeat at the hands of Hobart in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Merritt avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
