Softball Recap: Monticello's Undefeated Season over After 12 Games

Monticello has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging three runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They lost 13-6 to the Mt. Zion Braves. The Sages have struggled against the Braves recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Sadie Walsh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Ali Weidner was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Having lost for the first time this season, Monticello fell to 11-1. As for Mt. Zion, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello will head out to square off against Tri-Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sages' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season. As for Mt. Zion, they are taking a road trip to face off against Effingham at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
