Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newman). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Haynes Academy 67-34. Given the Greenies' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Haynes Academy are ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Newman to victory were Payton Foster and Randy Livingston Jr. Foster shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Livingston Jr went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points along with five assists and four steals. That's the most points Foster has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dre Davis, who posted nine points.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Newman was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Newman has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
