The West Anchorage Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Chugiak Mustangs at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chugiak took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on West Anchorage, who comes in off a win.
West Anchorage is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Eagle River, who was ranked 20th in their home state at the time (West Anchorage was ranked 17th). West Anchorage sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Eagle River on Tuesday.
West Anchorage took Eagle River into a fifth set where they got it done with a ten-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-28, 25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 15-5.
Meanwhile, Chugiak was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell just short of Wasilla by a score of 3-2.
Chugiak took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 24-26, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10.
Even though they lost, Chugiak was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in four consecutive matches.
West Anchorage is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-17-6 record this season. As for Chugiak, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-13-1.
