Softball Game Preview: West Vikings vs. Tehachapi Warriors

For the second straight game, West will face off against Tehachapi. The Vikings will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: West has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Tehachapi will arrive with five straight wins.

West fell victim to Tehachapi and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 10-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Vikings haven't been shut out since back in March.

For Tehachapi's part, Porter Averianna made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Averianna a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madelyn Leyva, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Mya Gil was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Tehachapi was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

West's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Tehachapi, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9-1.
