The Eastbrook Panthers will head out to challenge the Lewis Cass Kings at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Eastbrook is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Eastbrook will bounce into Friday's game after beating Elwood, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Eastbrook blew past Elwood 10-0 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for Eastbrook, who have now won ten matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Randy Casto was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Casto was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Eastbrook got a massive performance out of Gracie Elliott, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mya Peterson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Eastbrook hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Lewis Cass nor Southwood made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Kings walked away with a 6-1 win over the Knights. That looming 6-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Kings yet this season.
Like Eastbrook, Lewis Cass also got a great game from a two-way player: Ruth (Amma) Fitzhugh. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Fitzhugh has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Zamora, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Hubner, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Lewis Cass pushed their record up to 5-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Eastbrook, their record now sits at 11-7.
Lewis Cass' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eastbrook has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. It's a different story for Lewis Cass, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain Eastbrook's hitters?
Eastbrook took their victory against Lewis Cass in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
