Basketball Game Preview: Galesburg Silver Streaks vs. Marion Wildcats

The Galesburg Silver Streaks and the Marion Wildcats will face off at 10:30 a.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Galesburg has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Marion will come in with eight straight wins.

Galesburg's tournament run continued when they took on Rochester on Thursday. Galesburg received a blow as they fell 76-61 to Rochester. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (56), the Silver Streaks still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Marion against Comer on Thursday as the squad secured a 64-13 victory. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Galesburg better keep an eye on Ethan Simmons. He was instrumental in Marion's win, going 7 for 8 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Blue, who posted six points and seven rebounds.

Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Marion's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Galesburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Things could have been worse for Galesburg, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-50 loss to Marion in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Galesburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
