Softball Recap: Southern Wells Raiders vs. Monroe Central Golden Bears
Southern Wells was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monroe Central Golden Bears. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Alexis Pennington put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Remi Holmes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Southern Wells' loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Monroe Central, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Wells will host South Adams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Starfires will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Monroe Central, they will be playing at home against Centerville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
