Basketball Recap: George School Comes Up Short

George School and Academy of the New Church squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but George School had to settle for second. They took a hard 70-54 fall against the Academy of the New Church Lions. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 78-72.

Academy of the New Church got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cameron Smith out in front who went 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points and six boards. What's more, Smith also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Marquis Newson was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

George School's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Academy of the New Church, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-9.

Looking ahead, George School will take on Malvern Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Academy of the New Church does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
