Indiana high school football teams making 20-plus point jumps in rankings

Eight Hoosier football teams climbed at least 20 points in computer rankings with three more climbing 19 points.

Eight teams jumped at least 20 points, with three others just missing that magic mark during the weekly MaxPreps Indiana computer football rankings.

The leader, in fact, vaulted a huge 30 positions as St. Joseph's defeated Culver Academies 22-6 to reach No. 148 and move its record to 2-6. Ashton Ruszkowski threw two touchdown passes to Isaac Romans to lead the upset of a team which was ranked No. 86 last week.

Right behind with a 29-position improvement was Martinsville, which defeated Mooresville 31-14 for its first victory in eight outings and the 137th spot. Mooresville had held down the 125th ranking entering the contest.

Unbeaten Carroll raised its record to 8-0 and gained 25 points with a 42-14 victory over Northwestern, which was No. 83 entering the game.



Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter posted a big 21-18 win against Indianapolis Scecina Memorial, evening its record at 4-4 and gaining 24 points to attain ranking No. 114. Scecina had been ranked No. 71.

Clinton Prairie gained 22 positions to 195 and raised its record to 5-3 with a 56-40 victory against North White.

Unbeaten New Haven (8-0) was one of three teams to gain 20 positions with a huge 55-21 triumph against previously once-beaten East Noble. New Haven has defeated East Noble just twice in the last 14 years. They did it with defense, forcing five turnovers - four of them interceptions and two returned for touchdowns.

Salem and Churubusco also jumped 20 positions this week, while Seymour, Indianapolis Perry Meridian and Delphi Community just missed the mark with 19 points.

Seymour (5-3) moved to No. 102 with a 64-48 victory over New Albany, which had been ranked No. 89. Quarterback Alan Perry did the bulk of the damage by running for 265 yards - Including a clinching 94-yard touchdown - and passing for over 100 yards.
