Basketball Preview: River Valley Dust Devils vs. Mohave Accelerated Patriots
River Valley and the Patriots are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The two teams will face off at 2:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. River Valley has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 12.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 54-5, which was the final score in River Valley's tilt against the Shamrocks on Saturday. River Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-3.
Meanwhile, everything went Mohave Accelerated's way against the Crimson Knights on Friday as the Patriots made off with a 60-40 victory. Given Mohave Accelerated's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Crimson Knights are ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
River Valley dropped their record down to 3-21 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.0 points per game. As for Mohave Accelerated, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which somehow isn't as good as their 20-5 record this season.
River Valley took a serious blow against the Patriots in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 62-23. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mohave Accelerated's Megan Jones, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 20 rebounds.
