Softball Recap: Lake Shore Takes Down Ranked Warren Woods-Tower

Lake Shore faced Warren Woods-Tower in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Shorians had just enough and edged out the Titans 8-7. While the Shorians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sophia VanDenstorm made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Lake Shore let Izzy Bennett and Piper Lees run wild. Bennett scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Lees scored a run while going 1-for-2. Makayla Blumenschein also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The win was the fourth in a row for Lake Shore, bringing their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Warren Woods-Tower, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Lake Shore will head out to challenge New Haven at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Warren Woods-Tower, they will host L'Anse Creuse at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
