Baseball Recap: Warren Central Vikings vs. South Panola Tigers
With a playoff win on the line, Warren Central rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the South Panola Tigers, sneaking past 6-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.
Blake Caruthers was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Warren Central got a great performance from Justin Greer as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Greer has posted since back in March.
Back at the plate, Ryan Steed was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Trace Hood was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Warren Central's record now sits at 19-8-1. As for South Panola, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-11-1.
As of now, neither Warren Central nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
