Basketball Recap: Yantis Find Success

Yantis won the last time they faced Cumby and things went their way on Friday too. The Yantis Owls pulled ahead with a 62-61 photo finish over the Cumby Trojans.

Cumby's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Chett Vaughan, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards, and Chayton Vaughan, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points along with six boards and five steals. That was a full 37.7% of Cumby's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakari Johnson, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Yantis is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Cumby, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.

Yantis will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Saltillo at 3:30 p.m. on December 31st. Yantis is facing Saltillo at the right time seeing as Saltillo is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cumby, they will take on Liberty-Eylau in a tournament on Thursday. Liberty-Eylau will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something Cumby surely won't give up without a fight.
