The Clark Montessori Cougars will face off against the Western Hills Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Clark Montessori is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Clark Montessori faced off against Miami Valley Christian Academy on Thursday. The Cougars fell 10-7 to the Lions. The Cougars have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Calvin Acosta put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Acosta was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Acosta wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Ernst, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Chase Williams was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Western Hills entered their tilt with Norwood on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Indians. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Like Clark Montessori, Western Hills also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Britt. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Britt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Chris Smith looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits.
Back at the plate, Myles Pittman was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Peyton Schnitzler, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3.
Western Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive games.
Western Hills now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Clark Montessori, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Clark Montessori has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Western Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Clark Montessori suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Western Hills in their previous meeting back in May of 2016. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
