Baseball Game Preview: Archmere Academy Auks vs. Indian River Indians

The Archmere Academy Auks will take on the Indian River Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Archmere Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Archmere Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Sanford, who was ranked 11th at the time (Archmere Academy was ranked 20th). The Auks fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Indian River won against Appoquinimink on Friday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Everything went the Indians' way against Middletown as they made off with a 10-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Dylan Grise made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Kayden Vaught was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Nolan Staniszewski was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The win was the third in a row for Indian River, bringing their record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Archmere Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.
