Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Coatesville's Winning Streak

Coatesville dropped their record down to 13-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Avon Grove Red Devils by a score of 6-5. The Red Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Devils earlier this season, when they won 4-1.

As for Avon Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Winning may never get old, but they sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

For Avon Grove's part, they got a great performance from Grady O'Rourke as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). O'Rourke has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Logan Nelson was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. Avon Grove is undefeated when Nelson posts three or more hits, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ken Askin, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Coatesville is set to take on their familiar foe Henderson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Raiders 2.4, the Warriors 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Avon Grove will square off against rival East at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
