Preview: Riverton Wolverines vs. Kelly Walsh Trojans
Two dominant guards in Parker Paxton and Mason Eager are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Riverton Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Kelly Walsh Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Riverton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Saturday.
On Saturday, Riverton faced Evanston in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Riverton fell 52-41 to Evanston. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Riverton has scored all season.
Despite their defeat, Riverton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Paxton, who scored 21 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrick DeVries, who scored nine points along with three steals and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Kelly Walsh was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 54-49 to Star Valley.
Riverton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Kelly Walsh, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-10.
Riverton skirted past Kelly Walsh 43-41 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
