Baseball Recap: First Flight Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lawrence Academy on Monday, First Flight came back down to earth. The Nighthawks fell just short of the Kellam Knights by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday.

Ben LaVier was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, First Flight saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lance Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

First Flight's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Kellam, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1.

First Flight and Kellam should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. The Nighthawks will square off against Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (131 vs. 401). Meanwhile, Kellam (ranked 28th) will meet Salem (ranked 186th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
