Baseball Game Preview: Hopewell Vikings vs. Serra Catholic Eagles

The Hopewell Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Serra Catholic Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Hopewell came up short against Montour on Friday, falling 10-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost seven in a row.

Ben McDonald was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Serra Catholic entered their tilt with Clairton on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bears a 15-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by nine runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Tyler Skaggs, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Holmes, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Serra Catholic's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hopewell, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
