Softball Game Preview: Lunenburg Blue Knights vs. Auburn Rockets

The Lunenburg Blue Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Auburn Rockets at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Lunenburg has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lunenburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 22-12 margin over Groton-Dunstable on Tuesday. The Blue Knights have beaten the Crusaders the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Crusaders has come to flipping the script.

Maegan Martell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and eight unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Lilly Grebinar was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Grebinar, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lunenburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They got six more hits than Groton-Dunstable's also-impressive total of 12.

Meanwhile, Auburn hadn't done well against Doherty Memorial recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Rockets had just enough and edged out the Highlanders 2-1. The win was nothing new for the Rockets as they're now sitting on three straight.

Lunenburg now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Auburn, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
