Basketball Recap: Morristown-Hamblen East Comes Up Short

Morristown-Hamblen East had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it eight. The game between the Hurricanes and the Volunteer Falcons didn't end well, with the Hurricanes falling 70-54. The Hurricanes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Morristown-Hamblen East lost, don't look at Chance Stokely. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Stokely has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Smith, who went 7-for-16 on his way to 17 points.

As for Volunteer, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games.

Jeremiah Jones had another great game (as he tends to do), dropping a double-double with 25 points and 11 boards. He has become a key player for Volunteer: the team is undefeated when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. Griffin Head was another key player, dropping a double-double with 19 points and ten boards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morristown-Hamblen East will welcome Greeneville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Volunteer, they will square off against Daniel Boone at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
