Baseball Recap: Swain County Maroon Devils vs. Cherokee Braves
In what's become a running theme this season, Swain County gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 15-4 margin over the Cherokee Braves. That's more bragging rights for Swain County, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Jones Robinson and Will Holden were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Robinson pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (he also only allowed one walk). Meanwhile, Holden struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. At the plate, Robinson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Holden scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Lawson Woodard was incredible, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, a triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Hayes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-5.
On Cherokee's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mato Grant, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
Swain County now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Cherokee, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Swain County will take on Carolina Day at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carolina Day is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Cherokee, they will head out on the road to face off against Hayesville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hayesville is coming into the game with four straight victories at home, so Cherokee will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
