Softball Recap: Independence Blue Devils vs. Black River Pirates
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Independence can now relate to. They fell just short of the Black River Pirates by a score of 4-2 on Monday. That makes it the first time this season the Blue Devils have let down their home crowd.

Lila Manfredonia put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Manfredonia wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rabecca Gibson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Lilly Suvak also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Independence's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Black River, they pushed their record up to 9-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
As of now, neither Independence nor the Pirates have any future games scheduled.
