Volleyball Recap: Dougherty Valley Comes Up Short

After flying high against Granada on Tuesday, Dougherty Valley came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the California Grizzlies by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Grizzlies earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Dougherty Valley took California into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 18-25, 15-12.

California can attribute much of their success to Gianna Scott, who had 14 digs. That's the most digs Scott has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Maggie Bolton, who had six digs and two aces.

Dougherty Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for California, the win snapped their losing streak at three matches and leaves them with a 6-9 record.

Dougherty Valley and California could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 290th) will meet Carondelet (ranked 65th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, California will challenge San Ramon Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (520 vs. 62).
