Baseball Game Preview: Springstead Eagles vs. Hernando Leopards

Springstead is 1-9 against Hernando since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Leopards at 7:00 p.m.

Springstead managed to slip by Land O' Lakes the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Eagles came up short against the Gators on Thursday, falling 11-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Hernando waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Hurricanes.

Reagan Wilkes and Austin Knierim made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Wilkes tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Knierim didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Wilkes went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, while Knierim went 1-for-4 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brody Hedick, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. Another was Sammy Novick, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Hernando hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop McLaughlin Catholic struck out seven times.

Springstead's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Hernando, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
