Softball Recap: Rancho San Juan Takes a Loss

Rancho San Juan dropped their record down to 5-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 15-3 to the Alisal Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in March.

Melony Erazo-Chavez was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Alisal, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

On Alisal's side, Nevaeh Lopez was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Lopez was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Iliana Cruz and Micah Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Cruz went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and two RBI, while Smith went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three doubles gave Cruz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Ruiz, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Rancho San Juan is set to challenge their familiar foe Carmel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Alisal will take on rival Pacific Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 2.5, the Breakers 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
