Basketball Recap: Cairo Takes a Loss

Cairo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 27th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 71-18 defeat at the hands of the Dougherty Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Syrupmakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 468th, while the Trojans are ranked 163rd).

Shaquara Mills was Cairo's leading scorer, having posted five points. Mills also led the team in rebounds with 11.

Dougherty's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jatiana Chambers, who went 6 of 12 en route to 17 points along with six assists and three steals. The matchup was Chambers' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was D'Asia M. Simmons, who went 8 for 17 on her way to 22 points and four steals.

Cairo's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Dougherty, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-9.

Cairo has already played their next game, a 64-48 defeat against Peach County on the 31st. As for Dougherty, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-49 win against Westover on the 31st.
