Softball Game Preview: Ringgold Redskins vs. Red River Bulldogs

Ringgold hasn't had much luck against Red River recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Redskins will square off against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ringgold has six straight wins, Red River has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ringgold is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over Plain Dealing on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Jayla Joyner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ringgold got a massive performance out of Addison Kilpatrick, who went 2-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and one double. Those six RBI gave Kilpatrick a new career-high. Faith Clifton was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Ringgold was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .314 or higher in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Red River came up short against Simsboro on Tuesday, falling 11-1.

Red River's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Ringgold, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Ringgold couldn't quite get it done against Red River when the teams last played back in February as they fell 16-11. Can the Redskins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
