Softball Game Preview: Monte Alto Blue Devil vs. Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys

Monte Alto hasn't had much luck against Falfurrias recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Monte Alto Blue Devil will be playing at home against the Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Monte Alto made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Progreso, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Monte Alto was the clear victors by a 26-8 margin over Progreso on Monday.

Meanwhile, Falfurrias was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 21-18 hit to the loss column at the hands of Odem. One positive for the Fightin' Jerseys, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Hayle Menchaca was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Kylie Cisneros was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-5.

Even though they lost, Falfurrias was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive games.

Falfurrias' loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Monte Alto, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
