Softball Recap: Deering Comes Up Short

Deering was the 15-0 winner over Sanford when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rams fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday.

Lilian McCullum and Keeley Owens stepped up to the plate in a big way. McCullum went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Owens went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Milliken, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Deering's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Sanford, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-13.

Deering and Sanford could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Maine Rankings. The Rams (ranked 93rd) will meet Westbrook (ranked 16th) at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Sanford will square off against Gorham at 3:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (99 vs. 9).
