Baseball Recap: Nansemond River Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grassfield, Nansemond River was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators by a score of 11-7. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Buddy Baker and Konner Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Baker got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Johnson went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Baker is becoming a predictor of Nansemond River's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Jaleel Woodley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Nansemond River's record is now 4-7. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at 16 games and leaves them with a 19-2 record.

Coming up, Nansemond River will challenge Oscar Smith at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they will square off against Atlantic Shores Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
