Basketball Preview: Lincoln East Spartans vs. Lincoln North Star Navigators
Lincoln East is 9-1 against the Navigators since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The pair will face off at 5:45 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lincoln East will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Navigators are ranked 19th).
After a string of four wins, Lincoln East's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a hard 46-32 fall against Papillion-LaVista South. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lincoln East has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Lincoln North Star can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Saturday. They blew past Burke 68-27 on the road.
Lincoln North Star's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ani Leu, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists. Leu has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Anderson, who scored 13 points along with seven steals.
Lincoln East's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Lincoln North Star, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
Lincoln East couldn't quite finish off the Navigators in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 43-40. Can Lincoln East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
