Volleyball Recap: Fairmont Golden Tornadoes vs. Pender Patriots
Fairmont kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 3-0 to the Pender Patriots. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.
The match was exciting from start to finish, as two sets needed extra rallies to gain a two-point lead. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 32-30, 29-27.
Fairmont's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layla Hunt, who had three digs and three aces. Another player making a difference was Jerrian Taylor, who had 14 digs and two assists.
Jensen Bordeaux had an outrageously good game for Pender as she had 38 digs, six kills, and three aces. Those 38 digs gave Bordeaux a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eden Gurganous, who had 27 digs and two aces.
Coming up, Fairmont will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pender, they will head out on the road to take on Wallace-Rose Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
