Softball Recap: St. Margaret's Scotties vs. St. Catherine's Saints
St. Margaret extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They came up short against the St. Catherine's Saints, falling 20-0. The Scotties were not able to make up for their loss to the Saints from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for St. Catherine's, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-2. Considering they have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For St. Catherine's part, Kinnady Branch made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Branch has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other pitching news, Jenna Keefer looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Izzy Viruet was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Olivia Tull was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Margaret's will challenge Trinity Episcopal at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Catherine's, they will take on Brunswick Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
