After having lost a blowout in their previous game against George Rogers Clark, Bourbon County was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Newport Wildcats get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. Considering the Colonels have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dexter Leverett was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Bourbon County is undefeated when Leverett posts two or more runs, but 10-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Flynn, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Bourbon County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newport only posted an OBP of .100.
Bourbon County's win bumped their record up to 16-12. As for Newport, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-19.
The future could be bright for both Bourbon County and Newport: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Colonels will look to extend Holy Cross' four-game losing streak when they meet at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Newport will try to hand Boone County their eighth-straight loss when the two meet at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
