Baseball Recap: Greater Grace Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Greater Grace Christian Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They came up short against the Rockbridge Academy Scots, falling 13-5. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Scots from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Rockbridge Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4. The result was nothing new for the Scots, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Rockbridge Academy's part, Tommy Wenger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Wenger has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Rockbridge Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Rockbridge Academy let Drew Martin and Joe Ward run wild. Martin got on base in both of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run, while Ward got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was Ward's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Samuel Parlette, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greater Grace Christian Academy will host Rosedale Christian Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rockbridge Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mount Airy Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rockbridge Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Mount Airy Christian Academy has averaged an impressive 11.4 runs per game this season.
