Softball Recap: Trinity Trojans vs. Lutheran West Longhorns
Trinity had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it 11. They lost 24-7 to the Lutheran West Longhorns. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Longhorns this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-12 on Thursday.
Emily Sunday was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Nia Mckinney also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
As for Lutheran West, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games.
On Lutheran West's side, Gabriella 'Gabi' List was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. List was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Aryana 'Ary' Garcia was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
