Softball Recap: Daphne Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

While Daphne put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Springfield. Everything went the Daphne Trojans' way against the Springfield Yellow Jackets as the Daphne Trojans made off with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Victoria Moten was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other pitching news, Amelia Gruber looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Dasia Matt, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Hannah Newport was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Daphne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Daphne is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 3-5-1.

Daphne has already played their next match, a 13-7 win against Brewbaker Tech on the 18th. As for Springfield, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Beech at 5:00 p.m.
