Recap: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. Southern Wayne Saints
Sadly, the Smithfield-Selma Spartans are still looking for their first win of the season after 19 contests. They were beaten by Southern Wayne 52-17 on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smithfield-Selma in their matchups with Southern Wayne: they've now lost six in a row.
Southern Wayne's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nevaeh Hines-Bass, who scored 18 points along with two steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Hines-Bass has scored at least a third of Southern Wayne's points. Wilberline Senatus was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.
Smithfield-Selma's loss was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Southern Wayne, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-13 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Fike the next time they take the court. Smithfield-Selma will head out to face Fike at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Southern Wayne will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
