Football Game Preview: Howard Wildcats vs. Brandywine Bulldogs

Howard is a perfect 8-0 against Brandywine since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will welcome the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Howard 11.2, Brandywine 13.2) so any points scored will be well earned.

Howard is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Woodbridge, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Howard was ranked fifth). The Wildcats claimed a resounding 40-6 victory over the Raiders. The Wildcats' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Howard found their leader in sophomore Jameson Bryant, who threw for 194 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 passes, and also rushed for 60 yards and one TD. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 69 yards. A healthy portion of Bryant's aerial production (81 yards to be exact) went to Suhayl Benson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Meanwhile, despite more penalty yards than offensive yards (162 to 120), Brandywine somehow pulled a rabbit out of their hat on Friday. They secured a 27-21 W over Delaware Military Academy. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Bulldogs were the better team in the second half.

Howard's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Brandywine, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Howard has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Brandywine, though, as they've been averaging only 70.5 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?

Everything came up roses for Howard against Brandywine in their previous meeting back in September of 2022, as the team secured a 56-16 victory. In that contest, the Wildcats amassed a halftime lead of 30-9, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
