Softball Recap: Washington Union Panthers vs. Exeter Monarchs

Washington Union had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-16 to make it five. They fell 5-2 to the Exeter Monarchs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Monarchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-1 back in April.

Ariana Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

As for Exeter, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.

On Exeter's side, Chloe Sparrow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Sparrow has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Taylor Brandt was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lanie Uruchurtu, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

As of now, neither Washington Union nor Exeter have any future games scheduled.
